In the most of Europe, Brown Bear is a mythical creature that lives only in mediaeval tapestries and folk tales. In the European Union there are only 10,000 mature bears (source: IUCN). Not much further, on the new tarmac that ends 6 km before the Gramos village, we find muddy bear footprints crossing the road.

I new him because we enlisted his Dryfus Lion and one of his tigers to carry out experiments with bones (this is something archaeologists do). I find it astonishing that people argue of whether feral cats are bad for birds in North America. How many wild birds are eaten by either feral Cats or “outdoor Cats?

Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. Now I have the drama of the feral cats and of course the greyhounds.

Years ago, I became a wildlife volunteer and advocate because of a cat who caught a bird. The wildlife center was an hour away if I was lucky. It was Los Angeles, after all, where mileage has no bearing on time, but where time was precious for my little rescue on this crystal morning. I scrambled for a box. I was mortified.
