While it is listed as Least Concern, it is rare in China – the range map in the HBW barely touches Chinese territory. The Latin name “ chinensis ” is somewhat misleading as is much more common in Southeast Asia than in China – apparently, it was chosen in the mistaken belief that the type specimen had come from China.

This is irksome, as the premise is that we need to save the animals (and which ones is an interesting discussion) because we will suffer if they are gone. For only $450,000, we could buy almost all of the habitat neded to protect Ecuador's remaining frogs. But again, he's a conservationist, so none of this is a surprise.

He also served with the 13th Light Dragoons, fighting with them at Waterloo (though he can only have been about 18 at that point – I guess child protection laws were somewhat lax at that time). As usual in China, there are some anonymous Leaf Warbler species – but who cares, apart from Bella of Alpinebirding ?
