During a brief moment of insanity after the death of my pet kitty Brady in 1991 (at the age of 17), I attended Vermont Law School to study Environmental Law.   Enter Black Bear Crestfallen, I schlepped my sorry self from my minuscule apartment, across the Village Green toward the coffee shop.

A juvenile, if I am correct – and a rather rare bird in Shanghai, this being rather at the southern end of the wintering breeding range. It seems they kept a pheasant as a pet for the chick. While they will spend the summer here, the Rustic Bunting (listed as Vulnerable) will leave for its breeding grounds in Siberia soon.

Dogs aren’t teddy bears that can be left to one side, and the saying ‘a dog is for life, not just for Christmas’ lives on for a reason – it’s true.
