Sukau birding essentially means staying in a more-or-less comfortable lodge on the banks of the Kinatabagan river, and taking boat tours on more-or-less rickety boats on the river. So, just photos of the birds themselves. Why that makes Mr. Graydon worthy of having a bird species named after him is a mystery to me.

Many moons ago, when I used to work in the (supposedly) booming petrochemical industry in Trinidad, most of my time was actually spent birding. I racked up a staggering number of life birds in the surprisingly rich surroundings during my four-odd years slaving for The Man.

My spark bird was the Red-tailed Hawk that lives next to Central Park, the one named Pale Male I’ve always been a little embarrassed about this. There have been three books written about Pale Male and 2 movies made about him, and saying that he was the bird that sparked my birding obsession makes me feel like I am living out an urban cliché.

There is no ethical justification for killing an animal for no good reason. For example, "free roaming chickens" conjures up images of happy chickens running free and unfettered all about the barnyard, when in fact the label "free roaming chickens" just means chickens that were not raised in battery cages.
