Week four: We wrap up our stay in the US.

In 1974, Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge was established to protect the delta and its diversity of fish and wildlife habitats. Northern Harriers, Peregrine Falcons, American Kestrels, and a fair number of Bald Eagles all can be found on the refuge year round. I got to see several Brown Creepers in the area.

Nisqually Delta Wildlife Refuge

Established in 1974 to protect the delta, which is formed where the fresh water of the Nisqually River meets to nutrient rich, tidal salt water of the Puget Sound. At one point, standing in the middle of one of the first dikes, I was able to spot 17 Bald Eagles , a Peregrine Falcon , two American Kestrels , and Northern Harrier.

And although the single Bald Eagle we spotted just outside the park was probably more interested in fish, they are known to enjoy fawn as well, when they can carry it.
