They are widespread throughout Australia , but it does not mean you necessarily easily observe them. We were even more delighted as we followed some cattle tracks to discover not only more bird species than we had hoped, but also more Yellow-billed Spoonbills. Yellow-billed Spoonbill family. Juvenile Yellow-billed Spoonbills.

Whiskered Terns and locusts

The Pheasant Coucal family have moved on from the last place that we observed them. Whiskered Terns will breed in this area if the conditions are right. Attempting a photograph of the cattle beside the highway was pointless, because you only got photographs of locusts! There have also been White-winged Black Terns amongst them.

The Little Grebe is of course a very common bird that can still surprise by its beauty in its breeding plumage. Black-naped Orioles are breeding in Fengxian. Somehow I did not think Cattle Egrets would eat dragonflies (shouldn’t they eat beef, at least judging from their name?) Here is a presumed pair. One puzzle solved.
