We can say with much certainty that the majority of people admire and are fascinated with the resplendent colors of macaws, parrots, toucans and hummingbirds. In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat.

The two main areas, Greater Sundas and Wallacea, are separated by ‘Wallace’s Line,’ a boundary drawn in 1859 by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, who realized that the two areas had totally different birds and animals.
