So for a long time now I've been feeling unwell, never once had I found a healthy coping mechanism but I think spending more times with animals could help, I've always loved them, my cat has supported me emotionally more than anyone just by her presence. I feel safe with animals.

In Defense of Animals has taken up the cause of Lucky the elephant, the only elephant at the San Antonio Zoo, alleging poor conditions and emotional distress. She has been at the San Antonio Zoo for 47 years. Tags: zoos animal cruelty Texas elephants. What amazes me is Lucky's age.49 49 years old.

A handful Animal Person readers since May of 2006, when I started this then-daily blog, have asked me if I've read Joan Dunayer. And now that I've read Animal Equality and begun Speciesism , I think I know why. Dunayer devotes a chapter each to the language used in hunting, zoos, "marine parks," vivisection and "animal agriculture."

They were one, two or three to a cage, and I am 80 percent sure the accommodations were exemplary as far as such institutions (or for that matter traditional zoos) go. If they are "only" animals, if they are beasts which abstract not, then my comparison is a piece of sentimental foolishness. These chimps are healthy and well-fed.
