What I am getting at here is that I have seen lots and lots of Ruddy Ducks at Jamaica Bay but never one that looked like this particular individual. She was essentially cream-colored, much lighter than the typical female Ruddy Duck. Anyway, enjoy the images and keep an eye out for odd ducks! Get yours today! Thanks, Corey!

First published in November of 1843 the tale of a baby swan, or cygnet, being raised among ducks strikes a chord with many people, but in Denmark the works of Hans Christian Andersen bring feelings of national pride. The Numbat is the animal emblem. It is no wonder that the ugly duckling grew up to be the national bird of Denmark.

Searching for kiwi is unlike spotlighting that I’ve done while looking for nocturnal animals in the past. I ducked down excitedly and switched on the read torch, shining the weak light under a large bush, and sure enough there was a North Island Brown Kiwi. But we didn’t just hear it, we heard it very close.

of Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett has indicated that if enough people write in protest, the proposed hunting season–due to start this December– will be reconsidered. Hunting is on a steady downturn, and nonconsumptive wildlife pursuits are on a tremendous upswing. We can fight them back in Kentucky, too.

Fish and Wildlife Service tells states when they may propose a hunting season on cranes, and has ultimate jurisdiction over whether the states get their seasons.
