You fly to Phoenix, or Tucson, rent a car (or ride a bike cross-country, if you are Noah Strycker), drive to the tiny towns of Patagonia and Sierra Vista, and voila! So the only Patagonia I would choose to visit in the future, is the Patagonia to be found at the southern end of South America.

Today they are superspies working for Captain America when they aren’t doing normal super-heroics. 5: Falcon Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, holds an important part in comics history as the first African-America superhero in mainstream comics. No matter, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are badass and birdy and so they belong on this list.

Truly, a must see species in North America. The woodpeckers and scenery alone make it well worth the trip up north from Phoenix. The birds never called while I watched, unlike the noisy Acorn Woodpeckers nearby — an unusually quiet woodpecker species. A poor photo of a great bird, American Three-toed Woodpecker!

I haven’t yet been birding in Europe but whenever I occasionally skim a field guide about the birds on the other side of the Atlantic, I’m always encouraged to find that I’m already familiar with many species found over there, even though most of my birding experience has been limited to eastern North America.
