Cattle Egrets have perfected that smudgy look. Hints of potential warming in the HBW species description: “Date of first egg-laying on Honshu now 7 days earlier than it was 25 years ago” There are also quite a few Cuckoos. She got excited: “Birds with sunglasses!” But do we really care? ” Hm.

The Amazing Exploding Dove Meets Montana

With a hardiness that belies their delicate looks (but helps explain their phenomenal success), these pioneering pigeons are already sitting on eggs at at least one location in Montana. So right now I’m feeling pretty good about Eurasian Collared-doves. It’s just that the exceptions are so much more attention-grabbing.

It also seems the species is good at keeping its nest hidden – while the bird was named in 1821, its nest and eggs were only discovered in 1958 ( source ). Apparently, the choice is for the nests to be flooded (those near streams) or to be trampled by cattle (those near the agricultural ponds). No need to remind us all the time.
