But alas, my garden Wilsons have not been seen here on the 4th of April. So go ahead and take your summer breeders back. But my “Wilsons” really were Wilsons: Wilson’s Warblers , to be exact. One or or two of these cute birds visited me every day throughout the winter. They will return to me soon enough.

At least they seem to understand that raising chicks is hard and annoying work and have found at least a partial solution for this problem: “co-operative breeder, up to four individuals attending chicks at one nest, at least three seen to feed chicks” (HBW).

Rosefinches, Griffons and Woodcocks

But I cannot notice the breeder #2! Alas, I am not among them. Several Whinchat and Eurasian Skylark territories around, a Common Raven’s nest on a high voltage pylon, one Northern Lapwing in flight, a bush-top Red-backed Shrike , and singing Marsh Warbler in riverside vegetation. It is somewhere in those willows.

Birding Nonggang, Guangxi, China – part 2

Alas, one would be wrong – I immediately mixed it up with the rather similar-looking Rufous-bellied Niltava (not shown here). Sadly, the HBW disagrees, going for “featureless smallish babbler” (which then incongruously is followed by a 155-word description of the features of the featureless babbler).
