Birding Rockefeller State Park Preserve

This past Sunday was a hot sunny day in New York and the family and I took full advantage of it, exploring Rockefeller State Park Preserve, a pretty park in Westchester County, not too far north of the Bronx. No, I have no such diabolical agendas! Pure coincidence! We enjoyed butterflies, dragonflies, and sticks.

Back from the West!

After sixteen days touring the interior west and west coast of the United States with my family I am back in New York City. The birds weren’t high on the agenda while we were in Wyoming but I still managed to see some. I didn’t have much light to work with but a male Western Tanager can’t be ignored.

It just so happens that after I read Bea's comment from yesterday about reaching kids with our message I saw a New York Times article from today called " Where Little Chefs Learn the Art of Slicing and Dicing ," by Ann Farmer. Any other factories on the agenda? I don't think of that as a restriction. One is male.

Of the Central Flyway states, Nebraska alone holds out in protecting the cranes, having proven by its longstanding Festival of the Cranes in Kearney that a crane is worth infinitely more alive and purring in the sky with its family than thudding, broken and bleeding, into a cornfield. I have provided plenty of facts. Wicked, right?
