I rescued 5 puppies and their mom 3 months ago. Three of them found loving homes, but unfortunately, the remaining two were adopted by someone who put them in close proximity to sick dogs, resulting in parvo. I'm terrified that the vet might stop the treatment, and I don't want these pups to suffer or worse.

Choosing to adopt a dog rather than get one at the pet store (or what some like to refer to as “puppy mill”) is a beautiful thing—essentially you are saving a poor pup from euthanasia and you’re providing a an animal with a good home. One of the largest animal rescue operations in Canadian history just got a lot bigger: about 90 puppies have been born since hundreds of dogs were seized northwest of Ottawa. "We We have a lot of puppies here and a lot more puppies coming," said Rebecca Aldworth, the executive director of Humane Society International Canada.

On May 5, 2010, I adopted a two-year-old poodle/terrier mix from our local shelter, Animal Allies. I rarely go out late at night, as Angel will also go potty on a puppy pad in addition to going outside. He told me he had suffered a severe heart attack and had no idea why he had been outside by his van at that hour!

So when we adopted a human baby we knew we'd have to teach that human to avoid Violet. We weren't planning to adopt another. When we adopted them we made a commitment to care for them for the rest of their lives. This time of year, I worry about animals who are bought or adopted as gifts. Violet's a member of our family.
