The islands were purchased by the United States from Denmark in 1916. It is the fairest, most inclusive, and simplest option that could be adopted, and it is consistent with the addition of Hawaii. I recently asked whether Puerto Rico should be part of the American Birding Association’s ABA Area. That post led to a spirited discussion on the ABA Facebook page.
