Here's a great question I received via direct message on Twitter ( www.twitter.com/mary_martin ): "Do you think that even if Obama had adopted a shelter dog-it still may have caused a run on breeders? This is why I didn't campaign for a greyhound--it raises their profile. Would it matter?" That's what I'd like to think. Maybe both.

This year the Foundation has already raised more than $376,570 against its goal of $1.5 Ashley Niels and Nikki Jeske at I Love Rescue Animals.

Their population is in serious decline, so their breeding colonies are monitored by biologists. Biologists are trying to get them to adopt nest boxes, but no luck with the CA birds so far. I raised them, banded them and released them back to their colony site that summer. Occasionally, youngsters fall from the weep holes.
