Sasha, adopted at approximately nine months old, has taken roughly thirteen years to trust humans enough to be stroked while she’s standing on the floor. In literature as well as life, the ideal is the safely rescued animal finds the perfect home and becomes the perfect pet. Sasha spent about five months under Alison’s bed.

The vet did give me a hard time about the dogs' animal-free diets (my traditional vets don't, ironically), and my response was that unless she could show me some research that his particular type of injury needs animal protein to heal, I wasn't going to change anything. been there. They are all wonderful people and they are all animal lovers. But I’ve learned we love animals in very different ways. Case in point: some of my family members have become active with feral cat colony organizations. On the one hand, it’s better than doing nothing with a feral cat colony.
