Question about wild ducks and how they raise ducklings

Yesterday I saw two small ducklings in a group of ducks and geese, but their mom didn’t seem to be around them or attentive. Can someone explain a bit more about duck behavior with their babies? Are ducklings generally safe with other ducks that aren’t their parents?

Stalking a Kiwi Icon

The kiwi (note, Maori loanwords do not get an ‘s’ when made plural) were first used as logos in the 19th century, and were quickly adopted as a a national emblem before the turn of the century. Searching for kiwi is unlike spotlighting that I’ve done while looking for nocturnal animals in the past.
