Same with mammals, fish, etc. I have a pet chicken right now standing besides me inside the house that walked far all the way from her coop and stood at the door wanting to come inside and be next to me. Heck even deer standing just 6 feet away from me just stare for a moment then walk away.

Dogs aside, I’ve tended to plenty of small mammals and reptiles in my years, and have seen some pretty interesting things. We abandoned our house for the safety of my parents’ house on the other side of town.

Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages. One paper describes them breeding in a human settlement in abandoned clay jars. Unfortunately, the other hornbill species are not nearly as adaptable.
