The largest of the Andean flamingos is native to the wetlands and shallow alkaline lakes of the high Andes mountain range, from southern PerĂº to northwestern Argentina and northern Chile. Egg harvesting to sell as food was intensive then, with thousands taken annually from the breeding colonies in Chile.

The Brown and Peruvian Pelicans

The Peruvian Pelican is restricted to the cold water of the Humboldt Current along the coast of Peru and Chile. Abandoned fishing line also threatens pelicans along with many marine animals. The Brown Pelican occurs in both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America and northern South America.

The Cattle Egret Expansion

The following decades continued the great expansion, and it was recorded breeding in Canada in 1962 and Chile by 1970. Despite the Cattle Egret ‘s rapid expansion there are some areas that Cattle Egrets once occupied, but have now abandoned for reasons that are as unclear as the expansion was to begin with.
