Birding beyond Brisbane

10,000 Birds

As I mentioned a few weeks ago , it was our time to go and find some new birds! Our actual first bird for Queensland was a Common Myna at the airport and we were surprised that they did not seem as prolific as in Sydney. There’s nothing quite like being woken up by a bird literally laughing at you! Pair of Tawny Frogmouth.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Gaur Morning

10,000 Birds

February 2013. For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. Next to them are White-breasted and Common Kingfishers , while Cattle Egrets are spread among both deer and pigs.

Germany: extensive trips comparable to 2013. However, I really want to focus more on lifers instead of year birds, particularly in Indonesia.

Finding an Asian Openbill in Singapore-second ever record!

10,000 Birds

We have just returned from an incredible three weeks in Singapore, where unlike many others who visit the country we spent the whole time in nature parks, forests and gardens observing birds. The only shopping we did was to buy fresh fruit and some Asian snacks for while we were out all day hiking and birding.

Duncan’s 2014 List

10,000 Birds

2013 was a strange year for me, staring in the UK, ending in Borneo and spending large tracks of the year not really seeing many birds in New Zealand. Birds simply don’t get much better than that, but then again locatins to start and end a year rarely get much better than the famous Danum Valley in Borneo. The List: Birds.
