I was just getting back into birding, and had only gone to some urban sites, during 2012 and 2013. Since it was the first link in this chain, Pino Real was where I met many of Michoacán’s flagship species. As I look back at my eBird species list, it is astonishing how many of my lifers were first seen there.

One thing that unites those three is that they’re spectacular species I’ve had multiple chances of seeing and so far missed. But overall, I was surprised to see the overwhelmingly positive body of feeling. Most of the time, anyhow.

As 2012 draws to a close we here at 10,000 Birds thought that it would be a great idea if we, like we did in 2010 and 2011 , shared our Best Birds of the Year. This bird represented only the second documented record of this species in Florida. Felonious Jive really likes a ravishing returning rarity – a Falcated Duck.

I therefore finished the year on a high note, seeing quite a few species I scarcely got to see during the previous years. So here they are, my top 10 bird species of 2016, in no particular order except for No. This allowed for my first very nice views at this species since the year 2001, which made me very happy.
