The first thing I learned was that most animal-plant interaction did not involve mammals, or even birds. We should return to the issue of plant molecules and the good stuff they can do, vis-a-vis birds. Birds use potpourri, and apparently, to good effect. Insects ruled. At one point, for some reason, we had a debate.

We talked about past trips, birds we wanted to see, and birders who were not on board the boat. There were three birds I really wanted to see. White-faced Storm-Petrel – This is the bird that most of the boat was hoping to see. And, of course, there were more outlandish birds for which we hoped. And what birds!

Of course, I jest a bit in the above paragraph because as a sometime New Jersey birder I have birded the Delaware Bay and seen sights such as the memorable image below, in which thousands of Red Knots, Dunlins, and Short-billed Dowitchers fly up as if connected telepathically.

Electric storms closed the new walkway there and he amassed a total list of just 3 birds! It is a dream, nay, a mission statement of 10,000 Birds to see as many of the World’s birds as possible. Should the fancy take you, you could call up a 10,000 Birds life list (from 2016 onwards. 08 Feb 2016. 04 Aug 2016.
