My Year in Birding 2012

10,000 Birds

I had some goals for this year as well, goals which I laid out in the introduction to my 2012 year list. I came up just short of reaching 1,100 Birds on my overall World Life List , clocking in at 1,096, not a bad increase of 48 from the beginning of 2012 when I started at 1,048. I wonder how many I’ll be able to add in 2013.

Jochen’s 2017 year list

10,000 Birds

I started keeping year lists – not just blogging about them but really keeping track of what I see each year – as late as 2012, roughly 30 years into my birding career. 10,000 Birds

In February of 2013, I wrote a piece outlining my thoughts on which exotic bird species should be added to the American Bird Association (ABA) checklist. Egyptian Goose sightings submitted to eBird in 2011-2012. Egyptian Goose sightings submitted to eBird in 2013-2014. They were right! So what is the next ABA-countable exotic?

Birding in the Dark

10,000 Birds

Here in Germany, we are currently experiencing the darkest winter on record, since sunlight hours were first recorded in 1951. Rolling with the punches, I might be able to sell this White-tailed Eagle flying through a thick snowstorm as an extremely rare record of Steller’s Sea Eagle in Germany?

Jochen’s 2014 Year List

10,000 Birds

In a funny twist of fate, it seems that 2014 will be much the same as 2012 and 2013 have been, with family trips to somewhere in France and business trips to Indonesia and Kazakhstan. Germany: extensive trips comparable to 2013. The overall lay-out and structure of this year list follows the previous 2013 list.
