There’s a bear! There’s a bear!

Like many others, this village was totally abandoned and only recently repopulated, with a current population of only 18 people. Our guides were researchers from Callisto, patient and always smiling Yannis Tsanakis (above) and Maria Petridou with her infectious laugh and stories of her Sun Bear and Jaguar research experiences.

And, given the unstable political situation (slightly improved since the unified government of 2009), paucity of fuel, high crime-rate and dire poverty, it is probably last on the list of many traveling birders. I can speak from experience that this place should only be accessed by a 4 x 4 vehicle.
