Claudia Hollm saw a TV show about a family who had to relinquish their dog because of economic hardship. The family simply did not have enough money to feed their beloved dog and with breaking hearts they relinquished him to a shelter where he died shortly thereafter of a broken heart after being so loved by this family for many years.

To the Editor: While businesses that rent dogs may be well intentioned, they’re unlikely to benefit the overall welfare of pets, and may actually do harm to the individual dogs they “rent” (“ For a Temporary Best-Friend Fix, Rent a Dog (Kibble Included) for a Day ,” news article, March 30).

He died on July 27, 2008. To know birds is to value them; to value birds is to be devoted to their welfare. To accompany this review I have added two of my photos of my favourite bird family, the New world warblers. Lansdowne was at the time one of the foremost bird painters in the world.

I served on the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production, which released a report in 2008 that detailed exactly how much these “efficiencies” are costing America. Farm Animal Welfare, ASPCA New York, Feb. The meat industry loves to squeal that “the cost of bacon will rise” whenever it’s faced with pressure to change.
