Threatened Birds of Nanhui, Shanghai

Shanghai is located on the coast of the East China Sea and lies right on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. In addition, some vulnerable bird species such as the Reed Parrotbill live in Shanghai year-round and rely on the reedbeds for survival. A former World Wildlife reserve in Nanhui was simply turned into agricultural land.

This is how it looks like: Or at sunset: A species I did not come for from Shanghai is the Black-crowned Night Heron. Its species name graydoni is in honor of Philip Newenham Graydon (1864-1940), a British planter in Sabah. Why that makes Mr. Graydon worthy of having a bird species named after him is a mystery to me.

Week 21: Our last week in Scotland

While there were way less Puffins than any of the other species, they are still so much fun to see. The boat Captain got us right in close. Red Kites were considerted a Threatened Species starting in the early ‘80s, and a nation wide program was started to re-introduce them around the UK. Total Scotland Species – 105.

Best guess?
