We were then able to walk down Upper Thomson Road and get public transport back to our hotel. By the time we reached the Upper Thomson Road we had a spent three hours sauntering through the park and had a list of over forty bird species. We had not been expecting to see a Banded Woodpecker and there we had one right in front of us.

In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. Yes, that’s Panama City to the right. TRANSPORTATION. Thus, I arrived in Panama with 204 species on my country list and low expectations for more than a handful of lifers.
