Usually only several birds overwinter in Serbia – the biggest count ever was less than 10. And so, driving through the snowfall I spotted what I believed to be Tree Sparrows foraging on the road in front of me. But through binoculars I noticed small raised crests and supercilia joining on hindneck – Woodlarks !

The closer one raises her head, than lies back. The bird that was lost for more than a century is looking at us. And it becomes a motionless observer once more.

He raised his binoculars above his head and cried out with courage and clarity, “I am Sparticus!” They ranged across 10 countries (Costa Rica, USA, UK, India, Australia, China, Brazil, Mexico, Serbia and Uganda). White-browed Sparrow-Weaver – Plocepasser mahali. Clay-colored Sparrow – Spizella pallida.
