From Alex: “A friend came to me yesterday who had saved a puppy off the street (see photo). I volunteer for a local animal rescue so I took the dog off her hands, but since this dog hasn’t had medical care, he can’t yet be housed in a shelter as it could put both him and the other animals at risk.

At an NYC puppy shelter a few weeks ago, my mind was just about made up when I met Chester – The cutest Lab puppy I’d ever seen. After talking to the owner of the shelter however, I learned there was more to adopting little Chester, or any pet for that matter, than my love at first bark. Protect your pooch.

A good portion of the book is about the rescue dogs that grieved with her and comforted her during this time. I asked when I called the shelter. My vet smiled when he met Rascal. My vet chuckled as he bent down to listen to her heart. Rascal was the fourth rescue dog to come into my home in nine months.
