Spotlight: Lisa Beth Acton, Raising Ravens

This summer Lisa raised three orphaned Common Ravens. They were not aware of wildlife laws, and thought they could raise and release them. We took her to the vet and put her on medication, and somehow she pulled through. It’s been quite an adventure raising and releasing them, and I’ve learned so much. It was great!

Another advantage to ballistic food transport is that the fruit seeds are protected from damage when they are swallowed whole. While being a vet certainly has its attractions, including possibly not having to deal with people too much, the names of these diseases sound somewhat off-putting.

Dedicated keepers at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's Nairobi Elephant Nursery in Kenya protect baby Shukuru from the cold and rain, and the risk of pneumonia, with a custom-made raincoat. A mobile vet unit was able to tranquilize her, clean her wounds, and extract the spear.
