Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages. One solution employed at Kinabatangan is the use of artificial nesting holes – they look fairly unattractive in my eyes but seem to be accepted by Rhinoceros Hornbills.

Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept. I guess he should have stuck with the substantially less dangerous trogons. Lucky him, right? Though he ended up dead anyway.
