I wanted Penguins. The African Penguins (formerly known as Jackass Penguins) were pretty much a “gotcha”, but I was still tremendously excited to see them on two field trips–the Boulders colony by False Bay and at the Stony Point colony at Betty’s Bay in the Western Cape. And Sunbirds.

Heroes, mind, you won’t find the Penguin here. He was mentally bonded with a rescued falcon called Redwing, and has empathic powers with all birds allowing him to see through the eyes of any bird in the area. 10: Songbird Mellissa Gold was for many years the Marvel supervillain Screaming Mimi.

A descendant of those little brown blobs–or, at least, a relative—was Emily, rescued by Seymour and her husband Bob, and made the subject of one of the tracks on her terrific new pop-rock music album, There Are Birds.
