“We had a call one morning about a snake and a hawk,” says Tom Sweets, the executive director and chief rescuer of the Key West Wildlife Center , located at the very tip of Florida. Key West Wildlife Center takes mostly birds, but will rescue mammals, marine mammals, and both land and sea turtles as well.

That's when the full impact of the oil spill on wildlife will be seen. The animals threatened most by the spill are bluefin tuna, sea turtles, brown pelicans, shrimp and sharks. Right now, there are still no confirmed deaths due to the spill, but rescue groups are gearing up for the worst.

I can’t imagine the damage they must inflict upon the native wildlife. Sea turtles can be seen from the beach or while snorkling at Tamarindo Beach, especially if you go early in the morning. Magnificent Frigatebirds and Brown Pelicans are easy to find, just look up regularly and you will get them.
