I’m one of those people who thinks all birds are beautiful, from the drab House Sparrow to the pink Roseate Spoonbill. The Mountain Bluebird is one of the most striking birds in the United States, and is the state bird of both Nevada and Idaho. They let schoolchildren vote too, which must have been a fun class exercise!

I am originally from California, so it is easy for me to deal with a geography defined by a low coastal mountain range, a central valley, and a much higher inland range (in California, the Sierra Nevada). As I got out of my car, I immediately saw the first of many Black-chested Sparrows. Or, as I like to call it… Beetlejuice!

Other specialties include Bobolink , Sandhill Crane , Black Tern , Pinyon Jay , Juniper Titmouse , Bohemian Waxwing (rare) , Northern Shrike , Black-backed Woodpecker and American Tree Sparrow. Of course, the Sierra Nevada is a huge mountain range, and there are countless other places to bird besides Yosemite.

The American part of the A-Team includes the American Robin (Reno, Nevada). The Acorn Woodpecker (Reno, Nevada) is presumably named this way because the red spot on his head looks a tiny bit like an acorn (I know. The actual line for the toilets.
