It doesn’t seem to offer food or shelter for birds; but, being the tallest tree on the block, is an important stopover for lots of species. A Nashville Warbler , on the jacaranda tree. Occasionally, a bird will take a bite of the little apples that do form. Mostly, we don’t let them. Plus, it’s my other freebie!

Spring Migration on South Padre Island, Texas

Birders explore these migrant traps, which are an oasis of food, water, and shelter, to see if anything has been blown in. This is another oasis for passerines, but it was also a slower spot when we stopped in with a single Black-and-white Warbler , Nashville Warbler , and Yellow-breasted Chat looking for refreshment.

Welcome, Wood Warblers!

We are in the middle of our monsoon season, and I had to repeatedly find shelter from brief midday showers. I did not yet see Orange-crowned , Nashville , MacGillivray’s , or Yellow-rumped (Audubon’s) Warblers. But the Warblers were certainly happy. In contrast, this Slate-throated Redstart really knew how to pose.
