As Chilean officials and volunteers rescued 17 birds they noticed the birds were foaming from the beak. Unfortunately, contemporary people from the high Andes are beginning to see condors as the enemy; a predator that will kill and eat livestock. Other birds were seen crash landing. It is true that condors eat dead animals.

Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org ) have mobilized to Japan to conduct an assessment and assist with animal rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. The official death toll reached 9,811 with an additional 17,541 people still missing.
