Vegans are now on the mainstream's radar, and unlike some vegans, I do care about what goes on in the mainstream. And last night I volunteered at an event benefiting the Office Depot Foundation (which provides backpacks for kids loaded with school essentials, among other things) and someone asked me if there were any vegan desserts!

And it wasn't "vegetarianism" rather than "veganism," as though my husband went from omnivore to vegan overnight, I do understand that most people stop eating flesh first. But here's my question: For those of you with significant others who are not vegan, do you have a time line with benchmarks in your head?

Particularly when vegans and animal rights advocates are a tiny percentage of the population, some find it necessary and desirable to go to a place where they are among friends (for the most part). There's tremendous appeal in cliques. Where the work of one or a couple of people is followed and promoted. After all, these are my lessons.
