I can’t even imagine being in a position where my government was telling me to kill my dog, or have it beaten to death. Dog owners in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, are even being told to kill their own dogs, or else their dogs will be beaten to death by the police and the owners will be charged a fine. California recently passed a law protecting animal researchers from animal activists. Ralph Freeman has killed cats and kittens in his laboratory at UC Berkeley with no benefit for humans for over twenty years. Tags: academic research ALF. In the short term at least, it's not working. This law changes NOTHING.

. – The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) today announced an effort aimed at creating public registries in each state of anyone convicted of felony animal abuse. This could include violence (torture, mutilation, intentional killings, etc.), sexual abuse, and animal fighting as well as neglect (such as hoarding).

We can care about animals and people at the same time; they're not mutually exclusive. If you don't have to enslave, rape, dominate, or kill someone (or have someone else do it for you), why would you? Yes, it is hypocritical (speciesism), but who said that we either protect humans or animals? What do you think?
