Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept. I guess he should have stuck with the substantially less dangerous trogons. Lucky him, right? Though he ended up dead anyway.

In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets! They are one of the four existing species in the genus Panthera , and with males weighing in at up to 550lbs are second in size only to Tigers. This sleek, stunningly patterned cat was a formidable hunting subject, and in its cunning sometimes ended up hunting and killing the hunter.

As she continued her monologue about these cats, the Wildcat cautiously walked in our direction, never taking its eyes off of us, stiff-legged, ears motionless, striped like a standard “tiger” domestic cat but entirely in grays. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.4–3.7
