” Blue-bearded Bee-eaters seem to have a pretty clever hunting strategy. He also served with the 13th Light Dragoons, fighting with them at Waterloo (though he can only have been about 18 at that point – I guess child protection laws were somewhat lax at that time). A giant squirrel, actually.

The Aruban Burrowing Owl hunts primarily from the ground, hopping and running after lizards, insects, and small mammals. The added publicity – the bird now appears on Aruba currency and stamps – will draw attention to needed conservation and protection efforts.

The drongo perches above the flock, snatching insects that they disturb, and keeping an eye out for predators that might go unnoticed by its hunting flock-mates. The associated bird species seek out drongos, apparently relying upon them heavily for protection. It very effectively forms a small foraging group in this manner.

Although this park was logged in the past, as a national park it is one of the few forests in Ghana that is really protected. . Now that the colony is off limits for hunting, the population has grown and the village is benefitting tremendously from entry and guide fees, and a school is being built courtesy of conservation funds.
