One eyed birds often get put down or aren’t released but they can survive and can be fierce hunters, like this big female Redtail. Redtails hunt at night… sometimes. They will take baths but they prefer to do it on purpose.

So though I visited Lynford, I didn’t see a Hawfinch on this occasion as I wasn’t there at the right time, though I did meet a number of hopeful Hawfinch hunters (HHHs), none of whom reported a sighting. We actually spent considerable time searching unsuccessfully for this highly sought-after bird; however I did suspect they were not gone, as several hunters I interviewed knew the bird and claimed it still existed. The rare Rufous Fishing Owl was one of the many species seen by the group here. million hectares in 2007.
