So, here we go… Fighting in Iraq has been affecting starlings. But in Iraq, and more exactly, Kurdistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, they are supposed to be there (and are regularly hunted and eaten) and the fighting is not supposed to be there. . One of the birds most affected by this is Cassin’s Auklets.

We worship birds, we hunt birds, we protect birds, and, yes, we eat birds. and also Modern Iraq, Egypt, Albania, Mexico, Poland and the Philippines. As they say, the relationship is complicated.

My post last week where I defended game hunting as a conservation tool has, unaccountably, encountered a certain amount of push back.
