Montana has passed a law making it difficult to challenge the building of a horse slaughtering facility in that state. Tags: horse slaughter. The last such facility in the US closed in 2007. This bill specifically makes for groups that might oppose it to use the court system to do so.

I've always thought of horse-drawn carriages the way I think about greyhound racing or fur: Most people are against them, so why are they still around? The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages calls itself "an animal rights-protection-abolitionist organization," which I find interesting.

Boone Pickens said {November 18} that she would create a refuge for wild horses, after the federal agency that manages them said it might have to kill some to control the herds and protect the Western range. About 33,000 wild horses and burros roam the open range in 10 Western states.
