The soft thing that I accidentally had kicked was indeed the hedgehog. He curled to a ball and I first decided to turn the light off and leave space to him so that I stress the hedgehog as little as possible. I immediately started to reflect how much I potentially damaged the hedgehog. They are just so relaxed. So adorable.

And New Zealand has a fairly aggressive programme of conservation measures in place to protect native wildlife by killing native species, again something I have defended on th is site. Even wiping out one species, like possums, or stoats, or hedgehogs is probably beyond current methods.

They are harmless to humans and their horns are used for wrestling other males for mating rights. This sleek, stunningly patterned cat was a formidable hunting subject, and in its cunning sometimes ended up hunting and killing the hunter. In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets!
