They packed up in June of 2013 and headed south from San Diego with the southern tip of South America as their destination. Despite extensive research Lethaby and King (2010) found few records and conclude that this species is rare indeed. Kathi Borgmann and Josh Beck are living the dream of many a North American birder.

Today it is placed in its own monotypic genus, Oreophasis , and loosely grouped with the present day curassows and chachalacas. Horned Guan (Click for a bigger version.).
