Whenever you encounter one bird species near the edge of the track it is worth stopping, because invariably there are several species in the vicinity. Grey-crowned Babblers are usually in family groups of eight and are easily heard as you travel along the track. Two distant Pied Honeyeaters. Velliia panduriformis.

More importantly, it is a fantastic area to watch birds in its own right. Patience will get you good looks, and there is something very special about seeing a representative of a group so strongly associated with the almost mythic New Guinea. The Northern Brown Bandicoot ( Isoodon macrourus ) is a marsupial of the forest floor.
