This is why I didn't campaign for a greyhound--it raises their profile. Not to mention the White House is not exactly the optimal environment for a greyhound.) I was thinking about the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary calendar of rescued animals photographed by Deb Durant that's on my refrigerator. I call my greyhounds sneaky activism opportunities. Parlay greyhounds aren't for entertainment to they're not for experimenting on to neither are mice (again, takes a minute, but I've done it).

They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs.

Lately my beautiful, old greyhound Ruby, a rescued and abused track dog had experienced extreme agony in her joints from being overly raced around a dog track in the first few years of her life. Prior to her being rescued, she was also fed a poorly unbalanced diet and neglected. Canine Hip Dysplasia.
