And it raises a question: if all the birds are having a party over there, am I in the wrong spot? I used to live in Botswana, where there are about 450 bird species in an area a few dozen miles from the capital; then somewhat naively moved back to Serbia with mere 250 species around the capital. And where all those birds are?

Usually only several birds overwinter in Serbia – the biggest count ever was less than 10. I observed my first GS eagles in India some 8 years ago, then the first for Europe in Greece only last December , and finally I have them in my home country list.

Today is the United Nations World Wildlife Day, a time to celebrate and raise awareness of the living world around us. Raising and lowering its head, like stretching. The closer one raises her head, than lies back. The bird that was lost for more than a century is looking at us. And it becomes a motionless observer once more.
