Have you considered keeping goats as pets? Cats and dogs are the most popular pets, along with hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs also being amongst the favourites. If you want a slightly unusual pet that has lots of personality and can also be petted, consider keeping a couple of goats.

The feral cats were thought to have arrived as pets during early European settlement and then more were introduced to control rabbits and rodents, but now they inhabit all of Australia including offshore islands and are responsible for a high percentage of native species loss. They are incredibly cunning and not easily trapped.

Humans, and the rats, pigs, goats, dogs, cats, snakes, mosquitos and disease they bring with them have wiped out species after species on islands. For the wren, that advantage was taken away in 1894, when a pregnant cat escaped (Tibbles was a pet taken from the subsequent feral population). Gone forever. Perhaps.
